Police Officer Exams for St. Croix District

Police Officer entrance examinations for the Virgin Islands Police Department have been scheduled for the St. Croix district. The test will be administered on Friday, June 22, 2007 at the Division of Personnel’s offices in Orange Grove, St. Croix. All interested candidates must sign up at the Division of Personnel by Wednesday, May 30, 2007.

Candidates are required to submit the following documents as part of their completed application:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate;
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship; and
  • Valid driver’s license or proof of ability to qualify for a driver’s license.
All candidates must be at least twenty (20) years of age and not possess a criminal record.

Applicants possessing P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certification will be waived from the entrance examination and the twenty-six (26) week police recruit training program. If hired, certified officers are required to complete a four (4) week training program. The applicant’s P.O.S.T. certification must not be under review for possible disciplinary action.

Persons passing the written examination will be required to perform a pre-employment physical agility skills comprised of push-ups, obstacle course, half-mile run, demonstration of ability to carry eighty (80) pounds and drag one hundred and fifty (150) pounds. Police Officer candidates must also pass a psychological and physical exam conducted by the Department of Health or a local physician.

Qualified applicants have the opportunity to pick up the admission card and study materials prior to the exam. All off-island candidates will be required to submit a $100 deposit to cover the costs of express mailing the study guide. Checks/Money orders should be made payable to the Division of Personnel. Eighty dollars ($80) will be refunded to the applicant once the study guide is returned to the Division of Personnel.
