Driving Crime out of Sion Farm
St. Croix, USVI
August 29, 2005
For many years, a dwelling in the Sion Farm has been abandoned and known for illegal activity such as drug sales, discharging of shots, and robberies. On August 4, 2005 the members of the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Street Enforcement Team embarked on a mission to help residents and eradicate crime from the area. The first move in this process was to make the area physically safer and less attractive to the criminal element.
At 0600hrs (6:00am) on the 4th of August 2005 the members of the Street Enforcement Team met in the Sion Farm residential area where the operation commenced. Bins were donated by Bates Trucking and officials of the Water & Power Authority (W.A.P.A.) provided a backhoe and operator to assist in the clean up effort.
The cistern in this home was overflowing. Given the threat of Dengue Fever and accidental drowning, the Virgin Islands Fire Service aided in this effort by draining the cistern. Upon completion of the clean up, the Department of Public Works secured the premises from unwanted entry with plywood.
Heartfelt thanks go out to the business enterprises, government agencies, and individuals that assisted us in this endeavor. Through cooperative efforts such as this, we can make our communities better and safer places to live. Aside from a few annoying bee stings the assignment was free from any injuries.
