Community - Police Parnership Fund
During a small social gathering on a typical balmy evening
on St. Croix, the topic of conversation turned to the
problem-plagued Virgin Islands Police Department. Citing the recent and blatant
increase in criminal activity on the island, from the murder of an off-duty
officer to the horrific triple homicide along with the spate of home invasions,
the group realized that something needed to be done, to ensure not only their
safety, but the safety of everyone residing on the island.
Realizing that the VIPD's troubles
were more than simply a lack of equipment and manpower, the small group of
concerned citizens bandied their ideas back and forth, to figure out how they
could make a significant difference to our front-line defense.
That's when it dawned on them to coordinate a
territory-wide Fundraising effort to support those that are here to Serve and
Protect us. After all, we all live and work in this beautiful community of
ours, and if you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.
The main gist of the fundraiser is that all monies must be raised from the
grass-roots level, with backup support from various non-profit agencies and the
business community.
The fundraiser will be a three (3) day affair, commencing
the weekend of August 6th-9th encompassing a Cocktail/ Dance Party,
Mini-Telethon, and a Beach Party Blowout, with the raffle of a 2004 Honda
Accord or CRV (which has already been procured). All proceeds will go into an
Escrow Account, maintained by a local attorney for specific needs of the
department, mitigating any funds collected from going into the territory's
General Fund.
Your help is needed to make this effort a reality! Please
review that attached Proposal Packet to determine the best way for your company
to participate. If you'd like to volunteer yours or your company's services,
we'll accept that too! After all, you or someone close to you could be the next
victim. It's our island, our home, our community; let's help those who are here
to help us!
