Police Commissioner James H. McCall announced that on Saturday May 9th 19-year-old Akeem “Shawn” Williams was arrested and charged with Murder in the First Degree in the April 26th death of 25-year-old Jonah Andrews.
Commissioner McCall said detectives from the Major Crime Bureau, the Criminal Investigation Bureau along with Forensic Bureau Technicians and other police officers executed several search and arrest warrants in the Harbor View Apartments and John F. Kennedy housing community on St. Croix.
Williams, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, was arrested in JFK.
The warrants were served before dawn Saturday.
Officers also confiscated one firearm and several rounds of ammunition during the execution of the warrants.
Commissioner McCall thanked Chief of Police Oakland Benta, Deputy Chief Chris Howell, Major Crime and Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives and all the police officers and crime scene technicians who investigated and processed the evidence necessary to make this arrest.
There have been seven homicides on St. Croix this calendar year.
Two cases remain open.
Nine suspects have been arrested and charged with Murder in the First Degree in four of the cases and one case is awaiting the opinion of the Attorney General.
“The community should be proud of the type of work that has been accomplished by the police department,” McCall concluded.
