June 12, 2008
Acting Commissioner Novelle E. Francis Jr., announced Thursday the appointment of Oakland Benta as Acting St. Croix Police Chief.
“In the absence of Chief of Police Thomas Hannah, while he is on medical leave, Oakland Benta will be fulfilling the role of Police Chief in charge of the operations of the St. Croix Police force,” Acting Commissioner Francis said.
Chief Hannah requested and was granted medical leave Wednesday.
Benta joined the police force in 1984 and served the community for more than 15 years before accepting a position as Director of Security and later President of Executive Security for Innovative Communications. He returned to the VIPD in February and was most recently assigned as Special Assistant to Commissioner James H. McCall.
