Two Arrested Following Fight with Machete and Knife

Matthew FontainePolice on St. Thomas arrested 19-year-old Matthew Fontaine and 22-year-old Brodie G. Greenaway for brandishing a knife and a machete during an altercation at the Tutu Park Mall.


The pair was arrested and charged with Assault Third Degree just before 8 p.m. on Friday, August 26.

Police were dispatched to a disturbance in the mall and were told by witnesses that Greenaway entered the mall carrying a machete and saw Fontaine.


He followed Fontaine into one of the mall stores, approached him, and began swinging the machete. Fontaine then produced a 6 inch knife with a Brodie Greenawayblack handle and began swinging it at Greenaway. Customers who were in the store fled to safety.  There were no injuries.


Mall security subdued the two suspects and turned them over to VIPD officers.



Both suspects were held on a $25,000 bail each and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
