Man Arrested for 2009 Stabbing

Police on St. Thomas arrested Desron C. Ward, 27, around 4:55 p.m. Monday, December 13 and charged him with Third Degree Assault and Using a Dangerous Weapon during the Commission of a Crime of Violence for stabbing a store clerk in February 2009.  The arrest was based on a warrant issued by Magistrate Kathleen McKay of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.

Police said in 2009 Ward attempted to purchase two items at a convenience store formerly located on General Gade in Savan. The items totalled $2.75 but Ward gave the 32-year-old clerk $2.25 and refused to pay the balance. Ward was asked to leave the store by the clerk. The two argued and when the clerk attempted to escort Ward out of the store he was stabbed in the stomach with a knife wielded by Ward.

The victim was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Ward is a native of St. Kitts residing in Estate Contant.

Bail for Ward was set at $40,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
