Corrections Guard Shot While Driving en Route From Golden Grove Correctional Facility Thursday Night
December 28, 2007

An investigation is underway into a shooting incident which injured a Bureau of Corrections officer Thursday night. Police Chief Thomas Hannah said that around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Officer Ronald Allick, in his mid 30’s, was shot one time as he was driving on Good Shepard Avenue. “The officer had made a right turn on the avenue when someone in the bushes opened gunfire on the right side of his vehicle, one bullet struck Officer Allick in the leg.” Hannah said a total of six shots were fired at the prison guard and that he was unable to return fire. “His injuries were non-life threatening but he was hospitalized late last night for treatment.”

Allick, a resident of William’s Delight, had just completed a tour of duty at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility when he was shot, Hannah said.

Attorney General Vincent Frazer who oversees the Bureau of Corrections expressed concern at the incident on Friday. “It is unfortunate when those who represent law and order in our community come under attack by the criminal element. My department has already begun its internal investigation to determine whether this shooting and a previous shooting of a prison guard which resulted in his death are related.
