St. Thomas – St. John Police Chief Rodney Querrard Tuesday identified the victim of a December 13 fatal shooting in Hospital Ground as 52-year-old Ronald James Carty. Carty died of a gunshot wound to the back of the neck.

Police units were responding to reports of shots fired in the Hospital Ground area when Carty was found lying in a pool of blood. Soon after police arrived at the scene, Carty died of his injuries.

Querrard said Tuesday that an investigation into the 41st killing of the year in the territory is ongoing and is being led by the VIPD Major Crimes Unit. He encouraged anyone with information on this or any other unsolved murder to call 9-1-1 and or the MCU at 715-5544 / 715-5545. Carty’s killing is the 24th murder of the year in the St. Thomas – St. John district.
