Shooting Incident at Island Blues - St. John
December 6, 2005

On December 6, 2005 at approximately 10:45 PM Tuesday night, a telephone call was received from a citizen reporting that someone had been shot at the Island Blues Seaside Bar and Grill in Estate Carolina (Coral Bay), St. John. As you read you will find that this was an incident that may have been accidental based on information provided by the victim. This was not a drive by shooting, nor was there any physical or verbal altercation from witness statements; however this incident is being investigated as an Assault in the First Degree.

Police Officers were dispatched to the scene and found a male victim lying on his back on the Western side of Bar’s floor with what appeared to be blood on his shirt with a possible gunshot wound to the abdomen. Emergency Medical Technicians were at the scene; administered preliminary treated and transported the victim to the Myrah Keating Smith Clinic for further treatment. It was determined that the victim sustained a single gunshot wound that entered the right side of the abdomen and exited on the left side.

According to the victim, he was sitting at the Bar and heard what sounded like a loud clap and felt something hit him very hard. He continued by stating that he raised his shirt, notice blood and realized that he had been shot. He got up and walked to another area in the Bar where he collapsed on the floor due to the pain. At the time he was treated, he was unable to provide information concerning shooting incident or who might have shot him. However, the victim, while being transported by EMT’s to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, asked to talk with police officers again because he had additional information to add to his earlier statement.

At approximately 1:45 AM on Wednesday December 7, 2005 the victim stated that he knew who may have shot him and that it occurred inside of the Bar.

The victim did indicate to Detectives, this shooting was accidental shooting and there was no verbal or physical altercation with anyone in the Bar. Presently, the investigation is continuing to determine who that person might be and the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
