St. John Homicide Suspect Arrested/Charged With Murder

ST. JOHN – On Thursday, November 29, 2007 police arrested and charged 21-year-old Michael Steve Abraham with the murder of 22 year-old Alston Smith of St. John.

At 5:57pm, Thursday evening, police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Pine Peace. Upon arrival officers found the victim unresponsive, lying face-down on the roadside. Police say the victim sustained what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the head. The victim was positively identified by his brother.

At 7:53pm a woman called 911 reporting her son had just shot someone and she would soon bring him to the Leander Jurgen station. Michael Abraham turned himself over to police without incident and was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. A firearm, which police believe to be the murder weapon, was turned over to police. Detectives from the VIPD’s Major Crimes Unit, Forensics and Deputy Chief Darren Foy were transported to the scene by DPNR officials.
