VIPD Arrest Suspect in New Drive Inn Shooting

The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Virgin Islands Police Department has arrested Daniel Peters in connection with the October 30, 2006 shooting at the New Drive Inn in Estate Grove Place, St. Croix. Mr. Peters was arrested at 8:31 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2006. He is a 21-year-old resident of Mutual Homes Apartments.

Police Commissioner Elton Lewis says community involvement assisted officers in making the arrest. “The Police Department must continue to acknowledge the significant role that community involvement has in crime enforcement and thanks those concerned citizens who are committed to the safety and security of our communities and our people,” Commissioner Lewis states. Commissioner Lewis also notes that officers from the Street Enforcement Team assisted investigators from Criminal Investigation Bureau with the arrest.

Daniel Peters has been charged with Robbery First Degree, Assault First Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Crime of Violence. He was arrested on a warrant signed by Superior Court Judge Julio A. Brady. Bail was set at $175,000.00.

A second suspect believed to be involved in the shooting will be charged today with Robbery First Degree and Assault First Degree. Police are withholding the name of this suspect because he is a minor. Police continue to seek the whereabouts of a third suspect.
