October 4, 2006

Police Commissioner Elton Lewis announced today the suspension of Fernando Tonge, a mechanic with the Virgin Islands Police Department Motor Pool. The Motor Pool is part of the Logistics and Support Division. Mr. Tonge has been placed on administrative leave without pay, after being arrested and charged with Obtaining Money By False Pretense. Both the Internal Affairs and the Criminal Investigation Bureaus of the Virgin Islands Police Department conducted an internal investigation into the allegations made in August 2006.

Commissioner Lewis says the Police Department will continue to maintain its zero tolerance stance regarding corruption and wrongdoing.
