Ghost Gun Recovered in Traffic Stop

Arrested: De'Shawn D. Williams, age 26.

Nisky Center, St. Thomas, VI – On Monday, October 17, 2022, at approximately 12:20a.m., during traffic enforcement on Nisky Center Road, officers observed the front windshield of a Toyota Corolla was heavily tinted. Officers initiated a traffic stop, and immediately detected what appeared to be the odor of marijuana. The operator of the vehicle identified himself as De'Shawn D. Williams, a 26-year-old male. During the traffic stop a search was conducted of Mr. Williams’ vehicle and officers recovered an unlicensed firearm with an obliterated serial number under the driver's seat.

Mr. Williams was charged with Constructive Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, and Obliterated Serial Number. Mr. Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Richard Callwood Command where he was booked, processed and remanded to the VI Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing. Bail was set at $50,000.

St. Thomas District Chief Steven Phillips added “The VIPD Special Operation Bureau started a new operation on Friday, October 14, 2022, "Operation Overwatch," which is taking more guns off the street to include two firearms that were recovered over the weekend. VIPD is the lead along with other Law Enforcement Agencies.”
