A few months ago we featured the Law & You Program, led by dedicated VIPD officers in collaboration with instructors and public school administrators. During the Criminal Justice Forum sponsored by the Honorable Senator Loraine L. Berry, a discussion arose regarding the origins of crime and what can be done to stop it. One of the primary solutions discussed was educating our youth at a younger age, prior to the onset of at-risk behavior and values.
With that in mind the VIPD, under the leadership of Officer Roy Chesterfield, launched a version of The Law & You for the Elementary School level. This program is meeting with unanimous acceptance and strong support from the community and the leadership of the schools.
We congratulate the students, parents, teachers and administrators of Lockhart Elementary for implementing a program that is already beginning to make a difference.
