VIPD Training on New Software, Hopes to Improve Officer Efficiency
VIPD officers in both districts are receiving training on Smartcop software, a program that allows officers to enter data and investigative reports electronically. This is the second phase of a multi-phased training that began in 2005.
Ofari Benjamin, Director of Management Information Systems, says the VIPD is aggressively trying to provide our officers with the necessary tools to help prevent crime in the territory.
“This new software focuses on records management, and will help us keep better track of criminal and traffic reports, which is expected to result in better arrests,” Benjamin says.
Officers have already trained in Smart-CAD, or computer aided dispatch for 911, which is presently in use in both districts.
The third phase of Smartcop training will involve placing mobile data terminals in police cars.
The traffic division is expected to be fully online with mobile terminals by the end of the year.
