Letter by Police Commissioner Elton Lewis
Officer James Rozender Marrishow, was born on March 18, 1965 to Cecelia and
John Marrishow
on the island of St. Kitts, British West Indies. He was the beloved husband of
Phyllis Marrishow and father of five. Officer Marrishow graduated in 1985 from
the
Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. He was a member of the Virgin Islands Army
National Guard,
in which he served with the 661st Military Police Company and attained the rank
of Sergeant.
He was an honored member of the Virgin Islands Police Department since November
16, 1987
graduating from the Police Academy on March 12, 1988. Officer Marrishow served
in several
key areas of the Department, to include Richard N. Callwood, Mariel C. Newton
Command and
the Crime Prevention Bureau. His last assigned area was the Bassanio David
Command (Zone "B"),
Special Operations Bureau. Officer Marrishow received numerous letters of
commendations and
certificates for outstanding police work performed.
Officer Marrishow was a well-respected member of the Virgin Islands Police
Department. Law
enforcement seemed a natural outlet for his expressive personality and many
talents. He defended
justice, showed mercy and courage, and will now walk in peace with God.
Badge #467, Officer James R. Marrishow's official police shield, has been
permanently retired
from service in his honor. He has earned his rightful place in the permanent
annals of the
Virgin Islands Police Department, where he will forever remain one of the
"Virgin Islands Finest."

Governor Extends Condolences to Family of Police Officer James R. Marrishow

Governor Charles W. Turnbull today extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of
the people
and Government of the United States Virgin Islands to the family, friends and
loved ones
of Virgin Islands Police Officer James R. Marrishow, a 17 year veteran of the
VIPD,
on his unexpected passing. The chief executive also extended his condolences to
Police
Commissioner Elton Lewis and Territorial Chief of Police Novelle Francis and
the Virgin
Islands Police Department on the passing of their colleague.
Officer Marrishow joined the Police Department on November 16, 1987 and
graduated in the
Police Class of 87-2. He was also a member of the Virgin Islands National
Guard.
Officer Marrishow was part of the contingent of V.I. National Guard personnel
who were involved
in the air turbulence incident while returning from training exercises in
Florida that
was welcomed back to the territory by Governor Turnbull at the Cyril E. King
Airport.
"We mourn the passing of this dedicated public servant who devoted a lifetime
of outstanding
service to preserving and protecting the lives and property of the people of
the Territory.
May God grant all who are bereaved by his passing His sustaining grace and
comfort during
this difficult period," Governor Turnbull concluded.
