US Virgin Islands Retired Police Organization (VIRPO)

On behalf of the US Virgin Islands Retired Police Organization (VIRPO), it gives me great pleasure to be included in the VIPD website.

The VIRPO is an organization made up of retired Virgin Islands Police Department officers. The organization was formed in 1986 by its first President, Chief of Police David A. Canton. The concept for the organization came to Chief Canton upon being called to be pall bearer for a fallen comrade who had no relatives. The Chief pledged that this type of situation would never be experienced again.

Along with his wish of providing a platform to assist retired officers he also wanted to continue a spirit of brotherhood and fellowship amongst retired police officers. In the years since our founding we have come a long way. We are now a fraternal, civic and charitable organization. VIRPO assists many worthy causes, including the American Red Cross, United Way, Salvation Army, Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute, Adult Education, churches, the Virgin Islands Police Department, victims of tsunami and hurricane disasters, and Adelita Cancryn Junior High. VIRPO also sponsors many sports-oriented activities in the Territory.

We have also joined forces with Advocates for the Preservation of the Retirement System (APRS). All retired police officers, peace officers, other law enforcement officers and civilian support personnel of the VIPD are invited to join us in membership and in fellowship.
