Man Held for Early Morning Homicide

Police on St. Croix arrested 22-year-old Jeremy Davis Cheiuk at approximately 7:26 a.m. Wednesday and charged him with Murder in the 2nd Degree in reference to a homicide that occurred at approximately 3:58 a.m. Wednesday in the vicinity of #57 Queen Street Christiansted.
Preliminary police reports indicate the Cheiuk, who lives in Estate St. John and another individual, a 29-year-old resident of Golden Rock, were involved in a minor traffic accident that escalated into an altercation.
According to the police report witnesses told police they heard the argument between the two men and one witness intervened. However Cheiuk punched the victim causing him to fall to the ground, continued to assault him. Cheiuk then left the scene.
The St. Croix Medical Examiner was on the scene and pronounced the victim dead. Based on information gathered at the scene Investigation Bureau Detectives arrested the suspect at his Estate St. John residence and took him into custody.
The suspect was held on $150,000 bail and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending advice of rights hearing.
