Two Injured In Late-Night Shooting Suspect Charged And Arrested For Assault 1st Degree And Other Related Charges

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - On May 7, 2019, at approximately 12:42 am, the 911 Central Dispatch received a call that multiple shots were being fired in the area of the First Stop Gas Station located across the street from Vitraco Park.

Immediately after, 911 Central Dispatch also received a call that two persons that had been shot and brought to the hospital.

Upon officers arrival to the Schnieder Regional Medical Center, it was discovered that one of the victims was an off duty Supreme Court Marshal who was doing security at the gas station.

The other person who was shot was the suspect in this matter, shot in the left foot during the exchange of gun fire.

At around 12:00 noon, the suspect, Shamari Elmes, 22-years-old, was placed under arrest and charged with Assault 1st degree, Reckless Endangerment, Assault 3rd degree, and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence.

Elmes, who is still receiving treatment for his gun shot wound, will be advised of his rights on May 8th, 2019 and then will be turned over to the Bureau of Corrections. His bail was set at $75,000.00.
