Police Arrest 2 At Traffic Check Point Sieze 2 Firearms

On June 9, 2018, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Officers were conducting a traffic check point on Upper Love Rd. near the Anglican Church, when officers stopped a silver four (4) door Honda Accord to address the traffic violations occupied by three male individuals.

Contact was made with the driver, who was unable to produce the officer’s request to show his driver’s license and vehicle documents. The other occupants of the vehicle were asked to exit the vehicle.

During the process, 21-year-old Keshawnn Kirby had a firearm on his person, which later proved not to be registered. Kirby was detained. A check of the interior of the vehicle revealed that there was another firearm in the rear seat passenger, where 20-year-old Dequan J. J. Forde, later admitted possession of this second firearm.

A check with the VIPD’s Firearms Bureau revealed that neither Keshawnn Kirby nor Dequan J. J. Forde were authorized to carry or possess a firearm or ammunitions in the territory of the Virgin Islands.

Keshawnn Kirby and Dequan J. J. Forde were placed under arrest and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and ammunition. They both were given bail in the amount of $25,000.00, as per chart. Unable to post bail, both men were transported to the Adult Correctional Facility where they were remanded pending their Advice of Rights Hearing.
