Police Investigate Two Saturday Shootings

Police on St. Thomas are investigating two separate shootings that happened Saturday, April 28 less than an hour apart. A minor was injured by gunshots in Hospital Ground and another man was shot and injured near the Coast Guard dock on the waterfront.  

According the initial police reports, at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday a 17-year-old male minor told police that he was on the basketball court in Hospital Ground when he heard shots being fired. The minor said he felt he had been shot and ran to the Zone A Police Command. Officers transported him to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was treated for gunshot injuries to his upper right leg and left foot. The minor told police that he did not see who shot at him and did not know why anyone would want to shoot him.  

And at about 7:50 p.m. police were dispatched to the hospital to investigate an 18-year-old man who was injured by gunfire on the left side of his chest and his right forearm while he was near the Coast Guard dock. The victim was being taken to surgery and was unable to answer any questions at the time of the preliminary investigation.   Both cases will be followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives.  

Police are asking the community’s help to identify the suspects in these non-fatal shootings and also to identify anyone who has illegal weapons in their possession. Only with the community’s assistance can law enforcement take back our neighborhoods from criminals carrying guns.
