    Police on St. Thomas were notified that a man was found dead in a residential area and are investigating the circumstances. Area residents said the man was homeless and often slept in the area. The deceased is only known at this time as “Billy” and may be in his late forties or fifties.

  • Two Arrested for March Hit and Run

    Traffic Investigation Bureau Detectives on St. Croix have arrested two people in connection to the March hit and run accident that resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man. Police arrested Gregory Marcus, 49, on December 21 and 32-year-old Jazmin Linares on December 24. Marcus and Lineras were both charged with Negligent Homicide.

  • Man Charged with a Non- Fatal Shooting

    December 19, 2012
    Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Croix arrested Josayo Williams and charged him with First Degree Assault for shooting a man in the JFK housing community on December 6. Police said Williams was positively identified as the person who shot another male after a verbal confrontation.

  • Assault Victim Dies

    William Hyde, the victim who was assaulted on November 23 at Magens Bay beach died at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 17 according to Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Thomas.

  • Police Investigate Threat Received by Student

    December 19, 2012
    St. Thomas/ St. John Chief of Police Darren Foy responded to a report of threats received by a student at the Gladys Abraham Elementary School on December 19. The chief said the department will “aggressively pursue” anyone who makes threats against residents, especially children.

  • Police Arrest Suspects In KFC Robbery

    December 14, 2012
    Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives arrested two suspects and charged them with First Degree Robbery in connection to the November 20 robbery of the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Frederiksted. The suspects, 18-year-old Jashira Lopez and 34-year-old Damian Lang, were arrested on December 14 based on Superior Court warrants.

  • Assault Victim Still Hanging On

    December 14, 2012
    On Friday, December 14 at about noon St. Thomas/ St. John Chief of Police Darren Foy updated the community on the condition of William Hyde who was assaulted on November 23 on Magen’s Bay Beach. “There are reports in the community that Mr. Hyde has died, but those reports are premature,” Foy said.

    Police on St. Croix arrested Vernon Chris Huggins after he was found with an unlicensed firearm in his pocket. Officers on saturated patrol discovered the firearm in Huggins possession on December 9.

    Police on St. Thomas are investigating a First Degree Robbery that occurred outside the Embers Guest House in Estate Contant on December 10 at about 8:45 p.m. Witnesses said an armed masked man threatened and robbed three people.

  • Minors Charged with Assault at Magens Bay Beach

    December 12, 2012
    Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives assisted by Juvenile Bureau detectives arrested five minors and charged them with Attempted Murder in connection to an assault that occurred on Magens Bay Beach on November 23. The assault victim, who was identified as 65-year-old William Hyde was hospitalized on St. Thomas and later transferred to a stateside medical facility by his family.

  • Man Fatally Shot

    Major Crime detectives on St. Thomas are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Estate Thomas on December 11. Police said a man in his 70s was shot at least once and died later at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

  • Police Investigate St. Thomas Shooting Death

    December 10, 2012
    Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Thomas are seeking suspects in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on December 8 just before 4 a.m. in the vicinity of the Metropolis Night Club and Doctor's Choice Pharmacy in Sub Base. Keith Dawson Jr. was struck by gunfire and later died.

The Acting Chief said these individuals have been terrorizing the community and wreaking havoc. The charges include robbery, extortion and recklessly endangering residential communities.

    The Virgin Islands Police Department has launched an awareness campaign to increase safe behavior during the holiday season and the 60th anniversary of the Crucian Christmas Festival. Commercials are currently airing on radio and television asking bands and solo artists to record and submit a 30 second jingle promoting safety.

  • Police Arrest Suspect in Havensight Shooting

    Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Thomas have arrested a third suspect involved in the drive by shooting in Havensight that occurred on May 24. The shooting injured two visitors. Two other suspects were arrested on May 31. The third suspect, Javal Miguel Phillip, has been identified by detectives as the shooter.

    Police on St. Croix arrested two brothers, Angel and Antonio Ilarraza and charged them with First Degree Reckless Endangerment. Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives conducted an investigation into the discharging of shots in two separate areas that occurred in November. Officers requested warrants for the Ilarraza brothers’ arrest from the VI Superior Court, which was granted.

    Police on St. Croix are investigating a Robbery First Degree that occurred Friday night. The female victim was injured when the suspect fired shots. Police were notified of the robbery at about 8:30 p.m. November 30.

  • Two Suspects Dead Following Home Invasion

    Just after 2 a.m. on November 30, 911 emergency dispatchers received a call from a female resident of Estate Beeston Hill who told them that three suspects were in her home demanding money. The resident was able to leave the call open throughout the crime and 911 was able to relay to the VIPD everything they heard in the home.
